Before Bear Grylls, Cody Lundin, Les Stroud and Dave Canterbury made outdoor survival mainstream; Dennis Weidemann, Keith Kohler, Hank Kohler, and Rich Wiebke set out on an adventure that could easily be one of today’s hottest reality survival TV shows.
You can read about their trip in a book called This Water Goes North written by Dennis Weidemann. In 1979 these four young Iowa men paddled their way 1,400 miles north from Minnesota to Hudson Bay. I purchased the book about their adventure at one of the presentations Mr. Weidemann gives from time to time. The presentation wouldn’t be a spoiler if you haven’t read his book and it certainly motivated me to buy it.

I read this book and it is a very fun read. Dennis tells the story so well you feel like you are in the canoe with them and seeing everything they are seeing. This should be on the top of everyone’s reading list.
